He's not had a bad tournament. I wouldn't blame him for the defeat today,
most of the team made a lot of mistakes. Scholes gave the ball away several
times to devastating effect. Beckham shied out of a tackle to devastating
effect. It's not Seaman's fault that Owen only got one chance in the whole
game, and that was a defensive blunder. It's not Seaman's fault Danny Mills
panicked nearly every time he got the ball in defence and punted it back to
Brazil. And it's not Seaman's fault that Ashley Cole didn't know _what_ the
fuck to do when Ronaldinho started doing all that crazy step-over shit. And
it's not Seaman's fault that Cambell forgot Rivaldo was playing. And it's
_definitely_ not Seaman's fault that Teddy Sheringham came on.

In summary, England played 5 games, were great in two of them and pants in
the other three. Two years ago in Euro 2000, England played three games, and
were a shambles in all of them. My verdict?
Massive improvement, and with a much younger side as well. As an added
bonus, the England team now carries with it a small shred of dignity and a
reputation as professionals, instead of being a national joke.
